The AAO's Mission Statement
To establish a legal personality that unites a diverse group of artists committed to the development and exploration specifically of improvised/jazz music and music as an art form in general with regards to composition, performance, education and cross collaboration to promote cultural development and appreciation.
Goals
- Provision of a focus for the development of contemporary music, both notated and improvised, in Australia, and a forum for dialogue, exchange and performance.
- Encourage intense and innovative exchange between artists and audiences, between styles and between cultures and, through touring, raise the level of community awareness of various forms of music, including improvised music and its contribution to society.
- Stimulate artistic collaboration, through composition and performance projects, with the Aboriginal community and colleagues from nations in the Asia Pacific region.
- Play an educative role through the establishment of high level and community-based workshops, masterclasses, teaching and scholarship programs.
- Provide a vehicle for the documentation and performance of jazz repertoire to the highest possible standard.
- Encourage excellence in all aspects of the music profession.
- Develop a comprehensive Australian repertoire.
- Support the work of Australian composers and musicians.
