Alex Pertout

Alex Pertout is one of Australia's leading percussionists and with credits on hundreds of albums, soundtracks and jingles is undeniably one of Australia's most recorded musicians. Born in Santiago, Chile, he lived in Italy before settling in Australia in 1972, where he graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with distinction in performance and composition in 1983.

He has toured Europe and Asia with the Australian Art Orchestra, has performed as a soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, has recording, performance and television orchestra credits with artists such as Powderfinger, Badi Assad, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, James Morrison, Chaka Khan, Tina Arena, Christine Sullivan, Commodores, Casiopea, Merril Bainbridge, Little River Band w/John Farnham, Hunters &Collectors, Daryl Braithwaite and Archie Roach among many others. He directs the 'Alex Pertout Group', has released cds as a multi-instrumentalist and composer and is the author of Sight Reading: The Rhythm Book, a graded text distributed in Australia by Musictek and internationally by distinguished US publishers Mel Bay. He has also established himself as a respected educator and is Head of the Improvisation Department at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne.

His latest release From The Heart features guests including Mike Stern, Tom Coster, Tommy Emmanuel, Raul Rekow, Paul Grabowsky, Hossam Ramzy, Christine Sullivan, Kavisha Mazzella and Mark Levine among others and is out now through Vorticity Music.
