Elliott Dalgleish

Elliott has degrees in law, arts, music and business and is CEO of New Musique Australia Ltd. 1995-2007. Previously, he held the position as president of Queensland's Music Arts Club 1989-1995. He has toured to over 40 countries but loves to return to Byron Bay, his home town, whenever he can.

He has performed with internationally renowned improvisers such as Misha Mengelberg, Steve Lacy, Palle Mikkelborg, Karaikudi R.Mani (Southern Indian Percussionist), Bob Rockwell, Cecil Taylor, Thomas Frank, Gabe Baltzar (Stan Kenton Orchestra), Henri Chopin (French Sound poet), Mike Nock, Roger Frampton, Paul Grabowsky, Roger Dean and Erik Griswold.

International study: including private and group lessons, masterclasses, performances, open rehearsals including discussions on form, structure, art of interpretation, pedagogy, new media and performance Rocco Parisi b/cl. He currently plays solo concerts in parks to the birds, with Scott Tinkler's Drub and the Australian Art Orchestra from 1993-2008.

From 2002-2005 he released 3 self-funded CDs on Black Rhino Records entitled: "Chevalier Queens", "Bushranger Bill" and "Star Chamber".

Elliott came to the attention of the Australian music community through his collective ensemble "Artisans Workshop" from 1989 to 1996 (members being John Rodgers, Jon Dimond, Ken Edie and Elliott Dalgleish); playing lead alto with the Tony Hobbs Big Band Theory from 1987-1995; and the collective improvisational/technology based ensemble the "Interactive Performance Space Quartet" from 1996-2002 (co-lead by Stuart Favilla, Joanne Cannon, David Brown and Elliott Dalgleish) producing 4 albums: Sound Memories, RoadKill, Wanderings of the Gay Fairy and Blackmail.

He won the National Jazz Saxophone Competition in 1995 and the Optus National Travelling Scholarship in 1998. Elliott has received over 30 grants from the Australia Council and State Art funding bodies for his arts projects nationally and has been commercially released on over 35 CDs nationally and internationally.

Elliott's current 2007-08 recording projects are to release a 5 CD box set, The Mute Canary Project, of duet recordings with pianists Misha Mengelberg, Roger Dean, Tom Vincent and Erik Griswold; a solo sopranino saxophone CD of improvisations; and a duet disc of interactive technology with saxophone featuring Roger Dean (computer and piano).
