Erkki Veltheim

Erkki Veltheim was born in 1976 in Finland and emigrated to Australia in 1989. He has played viola with orchestras such as the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony, Orchestra Victoria and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and with new music ensembles ELISION, Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt) and Ensemble Musikfabrik (Dusseldorf/Köln).

He has recorded Bartok's viola concerto with the Melbourne Symphony for radio broadcast, and Brian FERNEYHOUGH's Incipits for viola and ensemble with ELISION, a work he also performed at the Berlin Philharmonic Kammermusiksaal in March 2003. He performed a concert of viola solos and duets with Brett DEAN at the 2001 Melbourne Festival, and has composed and performed multimedia works at various venues around Melbourne, including the Melbourne Museum.

He has also written and performed two music theatre works With John RODGERS for the Queensland Performing Arts Trust, and has exhibited as a cross-media artist in Finland, Spain and Melbourne. As an improviser hehas worked with John RODGERS, Erik GRISWOLD, Vanessa TOMLINSON, Timothy O'DWYER, Sean BAXTER, Daryl BUCKLEY, Anthony PATERAS, Robin FOX, Daniel FISCHER, James WILKINSON and Natasha ANDERSON, amongst others. He also plays in a country and western punk band, Roadkill Rodeo.
