Phillip Slater

Philip Slater is a trumpet player, composer, computer-player and producer of contemporary music. He has performed with the Mike Nock Quintet and Big Small Band, Dale Barlow, dig, AustraLysis, Barney McAll Unit, and many other ensembles. Slater is the leader or co-leader of several groups including StrobeCOMAvirgo, Band of Five Names, and The Very Interactive Band.
He has toured internationally and performed as a featured artist at various music festivals in the world including the Montreaux, Montreal, Northsea, and Umbria jazz festivals. His work in theater includes being MD of the Australian season of David Hare's STUFF HAPPENS as well as performances in Sydney Theatre Company/The Actors Company production of Brecht's MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN and EXIT THE KING for Company B.
Awarded 2002 MCA/Freedman Foundation Fellowship for Jazz
Winner of National Jazz Award 2003
Winner of Bell Award for Australian Jazz Artist of the Year. 2004
Winner of Bell Award for Best Australian Jazz Ensemble of the Year (PHIL SLATER QUARTET) 2008
