Bobby C
Narrator, Testimony
Robert Anthony Cleveland Clark was born in San Francisco and lived in Sydney for over 15 years. For Testimony he lends his voice as the narrator and he has been filmed for the projected images.
Bobby had always been involved in the entertainment industry in one way or another–as a comedian, musician, compere and actor–and had early family connections with the milieu dealt with in Testimony. Bobby's estranged father, Eddie Williams, had played with Charlie Parker at The Plantation in San Francisco and Bobby's older brother remembers one night how his mother kicked both musicians out of the house for making too much noise.
For the Testimony people who came to know him over the past year it was with real sadness that we learnt that Bobby's life was suddenly threatened by cancer, to the extent that he may not get to see his work for this show. Happily, in company with his two sons, he did make it to the premier performance at the Sydney Festival January 2002, but passed away some months later.
Testimony: The Legend of Charlie Parker is dedicated to Bobby C, who showed true strength, kindness and love throughout his illness. We all miss him very much.
