Long considered a vital voice in the jazz and funk scenes of Sydney, Lily Dior’s musical journey started in Bellingen (home of the Bellingen Jazz Festival) and has taken her around the world, culminating in performances with Mark Murphy whom she studied with in New York, and The Manhattan Jazz Quintet, led by legendary arranger Dave Matthews.
A graduate of Jackie Orszaczky’s soul/ funk academy “The Godmothers”,who wowed Sydney audiences for many years, Lily possesses a warm flexible voice that lends itself easily to the subtleties and nuance of jazz.
Since the release of her debut CD Invitation, Lily has been in demand at many of Australia’s premier jazz festivals including Manly, Thredbo, Kiama and Wangaratta, home of The National Jazz Awards, where Lily was awarded second place in ‘98. She is currently preparing to release the long awaited follow up to her critically acclaimed album.
