Shelley Scown

Voice

Shelley is one of Melbourne’s leading jazz singers. She has sung with such artists as Kate Ceberano, James Morrison, Bernie McGann, Johnny Griffin and Grace Knight and has a long standing association with Paul Grabowsky working with him in duo and the Paul Grabowsky Trio since 1986.

She is the winner of the 1998 Mo Award (Best Jazz Vocalist) and has appeared in performances in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens, Brisbane Biennial, Carclew Youth Arts Centre, Adelaide, Macedon Music Festival and the Mildura Arts Festival. Shelley is also a talented lyricist whose songs can be heard on her cd ‘Angel’ (Origin) which also includes arrangements of Cole Porter, Bert Bacharach and Jerome Kern.

Shelley is the vocalist in the internationally acclaimed Theft of Sita which had a season at the Sydney Opera House last September followed by performances in New York and London. She can be heard in this role on the cd Sita released by the AAO.

Shelley lives in Melbourne with her husband Steve, who is a sculptor, and their two daughters.
