
Daryl Pratt
Percussion
A classically-trained percussionist, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of California, Daryl specialises in tuned percussion instruments (vibraphone, marimba, bells). He worked with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra before moving to Sydney in 1991 where he is now Head of Brass and Percussion at Sydney Conservatorium.
Daryl's percussion teachers include John Gregamo, Jean-Charles Francois and Ronald George. He studied drum set with Stanley Lunetta and South Indian mridangam with RH Subashchandran. His numerous awards and scholarships include the Isaac and Clara Jacobs Award and the La Jolla Jazz Society Scholarship; also scholarships from the Office of Graduate Studies UCSD.
A specialist in the performance of contemporary classical music, Daryl worked and performed with the world's leading composers. In 1986, with Simone de Haan, he helped found the contemporary music project, Pipeline. He has worked with the contemporary classical percussion ensemble Synergy, contemporary music ensembles The Seymour Group, the Canberra and Sydney Symphony Orchestras and has played 'electric jazz' with Chad Wackerman Band, AtmaSphere and his own band Sonic Fiction, which has a self-titled CD on Tall Poppies.
