Doug established his reputation as a guitarist during a lengthy stint with singer Vince Jones, for whom he served as musical director. Doug completed a degree in Music at Latrobe University in 1987 and a year later joined the Australian Jazz Orchestra which toured Australia and USA as part of the Bicentennial program.
In the early 90s Doug was a member of Paul Grabowsky's Groovematics, one of the finest showbands ever to appear on Australian television (Tonight Live With Steve Vizard), for which he wrote many of the arrangements.
In 1991 Doug received the Australian Jazz and Blues Award for Australia's Best Jazz Guitarist.Since recording his first, self-titled album for Newmarket, Doug has made two albums in partnership with another Melbourne guitarist, Andrew Pendelbury, Karate and Trouble &Desire. More recently, he formed the New Tango Quintet, to explore his passion for the tango and other music styles of Latin America.
In 1995 Doug was commissioned by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to write New Metamorphosis, premiered at the Melbourne Town Hall in the Metropolis Concert Series 1996.
