Ann Moir
General Manager, 1994 - present
I was press-ganged into the ranks of the AAO to organise the tour promoting its seminal work Ringing the Bell Backwards … which absolutely knocked me out when I heard it live at the Continental in Prahran in 1993. That first tour which was assisted by the indefatigable Sue Spence (NSW) took the 18 musicians on an 8 city tour of Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales on the smell of an oily rag … ten years later one concert would cost the same as that entire tour … not a measure so much of inflation as an indication of the very lean times the AAO has endured … which is all by way of getting around to saying that I had a great sense of achievement in seeing the AAO celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2004. The AAO … more today than yesterday … inspires all who sail with her.
My previous experience has been in physical education, parenting, filmmaking, oral history, publishing, photography, accounts, Melbourne’s cable tram system and community arts … with a brief, eye-opening stint working on a cattle farm where I learned that anybody who thinks the price of beef is too high is wrong.
