Program Notes
The AAO has explored many different pathways to improvisation during its ten-year history, but not, until recently, have we given full vent to the power of the music that many of us play outside the group, the ‘hard core’ of our expression. Looking at our current line-up, we have so many notable leaders in the jazz scene of today, and Hard Core featured compositions by several of them.
With Hard Core The AAO also continued its proud history of being a leader of commissioning in contemporary Australian music and commissioned new works from two emerging talents, Melbourne pianists Andrea Keller and Tim Stevens.
