‘To Kill A Magic We Got Used To’ to close out Monash Big Jazz Day Out
Big Jazz Day Out returns for another epic jazz party on March 21 at Monash campus Clayton. Showcasing talent from the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, Monash University students and staff perform Aaron Choulai and Roman MC’s work, ‘To Kill A Magic We Got Used To’ alongside freestyle rapper Roman MC.
This genre-defying work will be performed by Monash Art Ensemble with Roman MC, with direction by Aaron Choulai.
The music builds live through Choulai’s unique conducting system. In the sonic world of a Spike Lee film score, hear Stravinsky’s music abstracted, blending composition and improvisation around Roman MC’s narrative-led spoken word and freestyle. It’s a gripping story that confronts the cost of visibility and the fragile balance between creative ambition and artistic integrity.
“To Kill A Magic We Got Used To” performance is part of Monash Big Jazz Day Out 2026.
