Tatana Village, Port Moresby, PNG
Ane Ta Abia is created by the Australian Art Orchestra’s Artistic Director Aaron Choulai in collaboration with Papua New Guinea’s Tatana Village choir. This special one-off concert and film event sees the Australian Art Orchestra ensemble travel to Tatana Village - Choulai’s home village in PNG - to bring the distinct sounds of Australian jazz and composition together with the Motuan singing style of Peroveta.
Born from the 19th century colonisation of Papua, Peroveta transforms the traditional harmony, melody and rhythm of Western hymns into an entirely unique form of choral music, usually performed in marriage, death and birth rituals in Tatana.
This special performance brings together the choir from Tatana, 8 members of the Australian Art Orchestra and a series of short films.
This tour is supported by DFAT.
