Zoë Barry

Zoë Barry is a composer, cellist, sound artist, performance maker and educator whose work spans theatre, gallery installation, film, immersive performance, chamber music and participatory projects. Her collaborative practice explores atmosphere, intuition, slowness and connection, creating experiences that invite audiences into shared acts of listening and meaning-making.

Originally trained in ethnomusicology and cello performance at the University of Adelaide, Zoë’s career has evolved through devised theatre, interdisciplinary collaboration and socially engaged arts practice. She has created and composed for companies including Patch Theatre, Back to Back Theatre, Sandpit, Restless Dance Theatre, Rawcus and Drop Bear Theatre, with works presented at major festivals and venues across Australia and internationally. Her music has featured in acclaimed film, theatre and gallery commissions, while her immersive and relational works have toured throughout Australia, Asia and the United States.

As a performer, Zoë has appeared alongside artists including Australian Art Orchestra, Jon Cale, Sia, Missy Higgins and Dr G. Yunupingu, and is a member of The Letter String Quartet.

Alongside her creative practice, Zoë is a passionate educator and Director of Harmony in Strings, an award-winning Victorian school music program centred on improvisation, creativity and trauma-informed pedagogy. Her teaching, like her artistic practice, is grounded in the belief that music is a powerful tool for connection, curiosity and collective expression.
