Jibber Jabber Sound Club

In 2026, Australian Art Orchestra announces a new partnership with Jibber Jabber Sound Club to create and present a monthly concert series in Castlemane on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung people.

Jibber Jabber Sound Club concerts are sonic explorations and give a platform to sound and inter disciplinary artists to investigate new work. Each concert includes three diverse acts, programmed by a local curator.

Concerts are held on the first Wednesday of each month (March - Nov 2026) with doors opening at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend Jibber Jabber Sound Club concerts.

If you're a sound artist interested in performing at future events, send a message through Jibber Jabber Sound Club’s social media (links below).

  • Aviva Endean is a sound artist, clarinettist, and performance-maker dedicated to connecting people with each other and their environment through attentive listening. Her creative practice opens up possibilities for collaborations, transcending the traditional in favour of a dynamic artistry which embraces the unfamiliar. Whilst deeply steeped in music, her vision extends beyond her primary artform to expand ways in which sound can be experienced and understood, and to discover new forms of expression that reflect the here and now.

Aviva’s solo music has been released on Room40 and SOFA music, and she has toured her work to major festivals internationally. She has worked in close collaboration with organisations including Chunky Move, Australian Art Orchestra, Chamber Made, and Liquid Architecture and is an ongoing member of award-winning ensembles Hand to Earth, The Cloud Maker and Lung Swara.

Her career has been supported by significant opportunities and award and she is currently an Ian Potter Creative Fellow. In her early career she received the prestigious Freedman Fellowship (2015), and she was recently granted the award for ‘Excellence in Experimental Practice’ at the AMC APRA AMCOS Art Music Awards (2025). Aviva was the inaugural recipient of the ‘Pathfinder Music Leadership’ position with Australian Art Orchestra (2018-19), Associate Artist at Banff Centre in Canada (2019), and resident composer at The Peggy Glanville Hicks home (2021).

  • Jace Rogers is an artist, bass player and vocalist in the band DEAD, which has toured extensively in Australia and internationally. He grew up in country NSW, and creates in whatever way he can,  switching between writing music and drawing, sculpture and screen printing. Much of his art is used for his band DEAD,  drawing influences from Devo to Don Van Vliet, Brian Eno to Michael Gira.

Jace is one half of the reason Jibber Jabber came to be in 2018, and he continues to support experimental music, DIY artists and emerging creatives, locally and abroad.

He also actively contributes to We Empty Rooms an independent record label based in Castlemaine.

  • Justin is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and band leader who has worked in contemporary sound art, theatre, popular, improvised and world music. His work ranges from experimental immersive works like "Sonic Labyrinth" with Aviva Endean and “The Wayfinders” with Jess Wilson to award winning albums with Zulya and The Children of The Underground and The Putbacks and sound designs for contemporary dance  like "The Maloya Moshpit". He has worked around the world in theatre, screen and festivals with diverse audiences and participants.

Some recent work includes  musical director for the 150th Celebration of Her Majesty's Theatre in Ballarat produced by Every Body Now! and music direction for Castlemaine Circuses "Playing On The Edge" show, directed by Asking For Trouble . He facilitating, mentoring  and creating new work in the Prototype and Expanding Fields of Practice  programs for Punctum Inc.   and the AAO. in 2023.

  • A Castlemaine local for over twenty years, Matt co-founded Jibber Jabber Sound Club in 2018, with the intention of fostering a local community of like minded performers and listeners. As a musician, his background is varied, spanning everything from Balkan-inspired ensembles and klezmer groups to vocal trios, musical theatre house bands, solo ambient guitar performances, and an improvised dub-trio.

As a curator, Matt has a love for long-form improvisation, particularly the hypnotic qualities of rhythmic and harmonic repetition. Currently one half of the ambient guitar duo Twin Cinema, he gravitates to texture and atmosphere in sound. He brings this appreciation for slow-building, hypnotic soundscapes, aiming to create a space where performers can explore new sonic territory.
